Dangerous Song is a 4 year long collaboration between musician Linsey Pollak and vocalist Lizzie O’Keefe. It combines the human voice with the sounds of endangered animals to create an intriguing and moving musical performance, and ultimately a new musical language.

Their piece, ‘Blue’ connects our hearts with the planet’s heart through the exquisite combination of endangered animal calls with the human voice and stunning underwater cinematography by David Hannan.

Pollak plays a digital wind instrument, controlling sounds of endangered and extinct species using live-looping technology to instantaneously record layers of music. O’Keefe joins him, weaving her voice in and out of the musical landscape of animal sounds in a series of original “songs”. This collaboration takes us to a world of sound where the human and the animal combine.

Accompanied by an extraordinary one hour film, Dangerous Song will transport you into another dimension and evoke a strong emotional response.

HORIZON Festival, Sunshine Coast - Songs of Emzara

BOOK TICKERS HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/songs-of-emzara-tickets-46789196747

Songs of Emzara is a tribute to the species who at this moment struggle for their survival – the Indri indri, black crested gibbon, Carnaby’s black cockatoo, Blakiston’s fish owl, Booroolong frog, blue-throated macaw… and many more. These are the characters that will take centre stage - it is their voices that you will hear and voices that will touch your heart.

Performed by Dangerous Song, a collaboration between Lizzie O’Keefe and Linsey Pollak, Songs of Emzara combines the human voice with the sounds of endangered animals. Linsey uses breath, lip pressure and fingering to play animal calls while Lizzie weaves her voice in and out of this musical landscape. It is their response to the current 6th Extinction Crisis and it’s a Song for the Planet.

This musical journey takes us to a world of sound where the human and the animal combine. A sort of sonic morphing.  This sonic world is mirrored by the projection of images of our endangered planet onto the performers themselves and lighting the natural world around them creating a multi-dimensional experience for the audience.

The serenity of the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens will add to the immersive experience as the gardens glow under a ‘Sturgeon’ full moon.
